Saudi Electrical Company’s (SEC) 380kV system forms the backbone of the company’s power network covering four major regions in Saudi Arabia. On top of the sheer size of the network area, the system has complex loads, static VAR compensator (SVC)k series and shunt compensation that present significant challenges in maintaining overall system reliability.

DAR was commissioned by SEC to conduct a network-wide detailed analysis of OOS for the entire 50 GW network to identify the system split point and balance the generation and load once the system is landed. The result of the studies was that clear protection settings were defined for the entire SEC transmission network.
